Recently we have been told that we are not serious enough. (so the member left, and I laughed) What? Are you kidding me? What does being serious have todo with creating dynamic images? We find that throwing a little bit of humour into the equation makes the learning process a lot less painful. You can go to other sites and get that "we are serious, we don't goof around, and we don't have fun either!!!!", but here, we are not like that. Hey NoBs right? Let the quality of ones work and the photographers associated with that person speak for itself. So what if we are a little wacky, so what if we have spent time in a padded room, and so what if our definition of fun is chasing rabid beavers through a densly wooded area. Learning is a game, you can win or you can lose, those are your choices, we just want the game to be fun and exciting.

Everyday I browse the community and I am amazed at the quality of work and the professionalism of our members. How can this be? This isn't a "serious" community, we really are not trying to learn, we are not really creating outstanding award winning images, and we are not making big $$ from the not-so-serious information located in the bowels of this site.

Of course, what the hell do I know.

James (if your work isn't the best, then it should only get better.)

Rob's two cents: Frankly, this is not such a big issue. So what if one or two people leave us every year because we aren't "serious" enough? As if!! Who really cares? Fact is, the more you are out there "doing stuff" and trying to make a difference, the more critics you will have. So ultimately it's a good sign. And it is so much the exception to the rule- the rule being that many, many photographers do get a lot more than a little offended- that it barely counts. BUT, in defence of having fun while learning let me make this point: When are our minds the most imaginative, active, turbocharged with learning and in overdrive??? When we are children, of course. Playing and having fun has been directly linked to the healthy development and growth of our brains and our intellect. This has been very much accepted in the scientific community.

Einstein is a good example. When he created the theory of relativity he admitted he would purposefully forget about everything he knew. All rules of physics and Newton's laws of gravity and all that, and he would let his imagination free flow- JUST LIKE A CHILD. Worked for him. But what does Einstein know?

Lighten up. It's good for you. And it will make you a better photographer
Rob

NICE THINGS PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT US:

"It has been a week since Hodgy and Rob put on their seminar in Phoenix and my head is still spinning. If you ever get a chance to attend one of their seminars or buy some of their actions, all I can say is "Do It!".Unfortunately, I didn't attend the all day portion of the seminar, just the evening part. The room was packed. The program was held in the same room that our local Phoenix PPA group meets and the last time the room was that packed was when Joe Buissink spoke to our group. I have attended so many programs where the speakers presented an infomercial, showing just enough to lure you to buy stuff at the end of the night. You know the type, if you ask a question about how something is done, the speaker tells you that the secret is revealed on their over priced CDs. Well not so with Hodgy and Rob. Top notch, informative and entertaining program and they showed how to do everything with step by step instructions. They even included a free CD with many of the actions that they showed that night. I did end up purchasing an additional CD, but more as a way to show my appreciation for their fine program. Now after going through the CD, I am so happy that I bought it.

Sorry for the ramble, I really just meant to say a big thank you to Hodgy and Rob! With just a little enhancement, they showed me what my images could be. I'm inspired!

Take Care,
Tom"

On that note......It's time to start thinking about next August and whether or not you are interested in attending the FIVE DAY workshop in St Catherines, at the Niagara School of Imaging (formerly Image Explorations). Without a doubt, one of the best bangs for your photographic buck.

Small class size, many choices and many students to meet and share awesome photography ideas with. Of course our course is always a huge hit, since we not only like to pour out our hearts and souls, but we also like to entertain and shock.....you never know what you're going to get! Already, students from last year have expressed (some actually paid their deposits) interest in coming back for another round of No Bs Photo Success. They enjoyed us that much. Our course content will be updated and modified since last year was our first year ever and we also learned a lot. Hope to see you there! Remember, class size is small (max 25) so you get a smaller, more intimate setting....but bring your dancing shoes! .....Rob

STAND AND APPLAUD

RIFF (Shawn) got a new studio. And he's pumped! I think he's so excited he's floating on air.

We met Shawn at Image Explorations last august. He was attending our class while his wife Julie was taking another photography program. And she's not even a photog. We could tell that these guys had the "bug" and we have no doubt that they are on their way. You know these things some times.
Here's a few pics of Shawn new digs.

Also PEPPY PEA is moving into a new studio too! CONGRATULATIONS.

" Large, open, high ceilings, hube basement, in all over 3000 square feet. Rent is quite reasonable (tho, it is a bit of a stretch for me- but I will be fine) AND rent includes utilities!!!"

THAT'S ALOT OF SPACE!
