Workflow Stage 3

Basic Image Workflow

The next step is color adjustment. The more precise your exposure and white-balance is, the less work you will have to do in this department.

Now there are several ways to adjust color, and I will go through the most common.

1. Color Balance - Image/Adjust/Colorbalance

This lets you adjust cyan, magenta, yellow, & RGB within your shadows, midtones & highlights. This is a global adjustment, meaning it manipulates the image as a whole.

NOTE: Although this tool is called Color Balance, we never, ever use it. It is simply not a very good approach to color "correction", which suggests you need to "correct' an image. You're first job and order of the day is to create images that have a neutral color (accurate) and good exposure.

2. Hue Saturation - Image/Adjust/Hue/Saturation

This method alows you to manipulate the hue & saturation of the image. It also allows you to manipulate the hue/sat within each primary color.

This tool is excellent for "beefing" up the intensity of your colors, using the saturation slider only. Other sliders and options (colorize) are used for creative effect. Careful not to over do any steps as it may look over processed and un-natural
