Dodging & Burning
Believe it or not these are probably 2 of the most used and powerful techniques. WHY? Actually, when you go back to the dark room (remember those days?), creating really dynamic handcrafted custom made prints relied on, uhhhh dodging and burning. A lot.....it's one of the best ways to "manipulate" and "enhance" your tones and colors.
There are various ways to create a burn/dodge
effect. The simplest way is to use the burn/dodge
tool, hence the name burn tool, dodge tool
.
For this image, I simply used the burn tool with the range set to HIGHLIGHTS and a high exposure (around 90%). Using the MIDTONE range will result in a much "harsher" burn effect, so be sure to lower the exposure (around 20%).
