Oh No!

Ouch, Mike Long shared this gut-wrenching image: his clients trying to reach a flash card he accidentally dropped below a deck while loading in a fresh card.

The story has a happy ending though:

A Boy, A Girl, A Bike, And A Dragon?

A Boy A Girl A Bike and a DRAGON?

Tuesday night we headed out to Trout lake to photograph the Chaters Family and the engagement session of Andrea & Nik. After driving 400 miles on a dirt road, through Sasquatch invested forests, up and down death defying mountains and across shark infested marshes, we arrived at the beautiful property. We worked hard, we worked fast as the clouds were rolling in and shutting down our daylight right before our eyes. After creating some beautiful family portraits of the Chaters (blog post to follow) we then started the engagement portion of the session with a dragon. That’s right, Woody the bearded dragon. Note: To all fellow photographers looking to photograph a bearded dragon. Do not, I repeat do not convince the owner to take pictures outside with no leash. Why? Because they run away that is why. Little does Nik know but as I watched Woody mad dash towards the woods my heart sunk to the bottom of my stomach where it then tried very hard exit my body. What would be the chances of finding Woody after it rushed into woods? ummmmm. I would say zero. Good thing Nik is quick and on his game as Woody never had a chance leave the grass. PHEW!.

Get Certified With Sandy Puc’

NoBS member and famed children’s photographer Sandy Puc’ has undertaken a daunting, if not amazing, challenge of assisting 1,000 photographers to get certified through PPA by 2011. “Because I believe that education is the answer to keeping our industry strong, I’ve created the Certify With Sandy Puc’ (CWSP) free educational program. The program will work through the Professional Photographic Certification Commission and help 1,000 photographers just like you get certified as a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP). Not only will you become a better photographer by improving your knowledge, but you will also have pride in yourself for achieving your goal. Not to mention, I will be your biggest fan!” said Sandy.

If you are interested in joining go to this link. There is even a NoBS study group!

You don’t need a load of light to capture cool portraits and nicely light candid shots…..

“A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided.”
~Tony Robbins~
You don’t need a load of light to capture cool portraits and nicely light candid shots…..
All you need is one, or two windows..here’s the brides home that I showed up a few weeks ago to start capturing the first phase of their cold, winter wedding…
Inside, while shooting the bride and her girls, I turned around and there was her dad, sitting in perfect light. I asked him to hold it while I moved in and grabbed a quick shot…..nothing posed, he had his hand up like that and the light streamed in for almost ideal short lighting….
Two images below, I used the other window light. It lights her, and her bridesmaid from behind, while my assistant picks it up and brings the light back into her face, creating nice specular catch lights in her eyes…. The light coming from behind her was on purpose, to add sculpting and form…
The same window light use in the shots above, but shooting from almost 90 degrees….
All the shots above taken using the same window light. I created some cool, relaxed, funky poses and angles, working with the chaise lounge in the living room.
Below, same light is working the whole room, great for candids, enhance by the small window, above the door, to the right….
Again, using the same window light for some detail shots, 100% back lighting the bouquets an the ring… (coolest bouquets I ever seen….)

And yet, another email from the webinar

Thanks!

Hi Rob,
On behalf of Adrian & I, we would like to thank you for the webinar.
We both found it very informative…. Adrian has been a little bit amused because I have taken notes on both the ones we have attended.
I’m a note taker & he’s a watcher, we have different learning styles & the fairies webinars are great because we can both benifit from them.
We have both learned so much since we joined NoBS… in fact it would be hard to say what it is that we have gained most from :-)
I am the principal Photoshop user & have struggled to figure it out on my own, but from the tutorials I have picked up so much & gone “Oh,duh that’s how it works” a LOT!
Adrian has more marketing & product widgets coming out of his head than he can coherantly work with :-)
So thank you once again,
Regards,
Faith.Adrian & Faith
